Delightful Reveal #82

A bi-weekly update on all things Flagrant

…but I need you to be brave today and do your best to reject that gravitational pull, the undeniable allure of E2E tests, and do other things

What we did:

  • Updating designs on a contact page to incorporate methods to contact the user via phone or email when using Call Time, a feature that candidates can go through a list of potential donors.
  • Worked with Jonathan to get state management working with Turbo in a client app
  • Wrote a three part blog series on dialog html elements in parallel with dialoguing in the workspace
  • Implemented different solutions for broadcasting different content to different users with turbo streams.
  • Created one of those ActiveModel search object forms with pill checkbox filters again.
  • Refactoring Flagrant Design System(still a WIP) based on team member usage so far on projects
  • Published 2 blog posts (A T-Shirt is Born and Leaving Our Mark)
  • Worked on getting XO Ruby designs ready for the first event in September
  • Published part one a blog post on why products need a navigational thesis, which means I should probably get working on part two ;)
  • Learned how to use Figma Buzz
  • Designed a region selector for a client’s marketing website so that customers in different countries can more reliably find content relevant to them
  • Announced XO Ruby – A 6 event series across a swath of the United States with foundational support from Cisco
  • Created a promotion kit for XO Ruby
  • Updated the Flagrant portfolio with a couple of new projects (RailsConf 2025 and WNB.rb) *

What we’re listening to:

What we’re interested in:

  • Picking up/polishing up my French by consuming more media
  • Medieval times - trying to coordinate dates to go with friends
  • Bristol Renaissance Festival - But waiting for a non-themed weekend so I don’t fight a bunch of elves over the bathroom line
  • Crochet fish ties

What we’re struggling with:

  • Too much committee stuff at the (now volunteer-run) local makerspace
  • Remembering blog post drafts +1
  • Jet lag recovery many days later, a.k.a. being unable to stay awake after ~9:30pm (which, even as a homebody-grandma-type to begin with, is early for me)
  • Not enough time
  • Dog ate my puzzle :’(
  • A ridiculous queue to get tickets for the Maryland Renn Fest — it’s a Renaissance Festival, not a Taylor Swift concert
  • Endless rain and cloudy weather

What we’re buying:

  • Different green coffee to roast
  • New puzzle
  • Tickets to the Maryland Renn Fest
  • Black candlesticks for my friend groups’ next D&D session
  • Dr. Bronner’s lavender-scented hand sanitizer for my family in France who became obsessed and cannot buy it there for a reasonable price
  • A fancy schmancy reloadable notebook folio from Louise Carmen

What we’re celebrating:

  • Finally getting a trailer hitch installed
  • I bought and finished a Magic puzzle finally (mystic maze)
  • A baby finally rolling over — once
  • Going to see the shooting stars this weekend
  • My 3-year anniversary at Flagrant is coming up soon—time flies!
  • Feeling renewed and refreshed after some beautiful vacay time with family in some of my favorite places
  • Visiting with a pair of my friend’s sleepy kittens
  • Gavin coming home after a successful summer job in Alberta
