Visuals / Ruby Central

Conference branding and website for Ruby Central’s final RailsConf

RailsConf is the longest-running conference dedicated to the Rails framework, bringing together developers from around the world to share knowledge, collaborate, and shape the future of the framework. For the final RailsConf, we designed conference branding, merch, wayfinding, and much more to honor the past 20+ years of RailsConf and the community.
  • Snippets of RailConf conference wayfinding and sponsorship.

    Conference wayfinding

This was the last RailsConf, and with that in mind, we decided to design a conference that would allow people to showcase their individual stories and history within the community. This was a huge influence on the visual design of the conference with its use of post-its, stickers, and squiggles, and spaces for attendees to add their own flair.

  • A passport of hand-drawn postage stamps of various sponsor booths at RailsConfs that attendees could gather to win a free ticket to next year’s RubyConf.

    Engaging the Ruby community

Part of the ask for the conference was creating activities that participants could physically interact with. This included signs with questionnaires, an interactive wall, name badges with customizable areas, and a sponsor booth bingo card.

An array of conference branding and merch, including wayfinding, t-shirts, and a thank you card.
  • Wall of Ruby-related illustrations that made for a photobooth backdrop at RailsConf 2025. There is also a real life photo of the booth at the conference overlaid on top in a Polaroid border.

    Flagrant’s RailsConf-themed selfie wall

When creating our sponsor booth for the conference, we wanted to make a selfie wall that would incorporate the history of Rails and nod to the community and culture that has had an impact on so many. References we included: Capybara, Unicorn, Flipper, Ahoy, debugging, Duck Typing, Paperclip, Cucumber, Octocat, Rake, Sidekiq and Factory Bot. There is also a map of all of the past RailsConf locations, a snowglobe with Jim Weirich next to a pear (pair with Jim, get it), a train (duh), and a LOVE sign to acknowledge the final location of the conference, Philly.

  • Collage of RailsConf 2025 webpages showcasing the location, speakers, and about details for the conference.

    RailsConf 2025 event website

The website reflects the physical space by including post-its, dot stickers, and scribbles. It gave the visitors to the site a sneak peek at the physical design of the conference.
